France: Goes Well With the Salmon Genome
"Researchers outside Paris have deciphered the genetic code of the pinot noir grape, saying they had identified the nearly half a billion units of its DNA. It is the first grape, and the first fruit, to be genetically mapped. The team said the grape had an unusually high number of genes whose job it is to create flavor; more than 100 genes are dedicated to producing tannins and terpenes, compared with about 50 for other plants.
