We have a unique wildlife setting within our 205-acre “Willamette Farms of Oregon”. Our vineyard faces directly South along a ridge overlooking the Willamette River, Oregon’s principal salmon carrier, and our property abuts this river along a one-half mile stretch. Just below the vineyard, and bisecting our farm, flows Springbrook Creek. In addition we have three large ponds.
For almost 50 years our family has worked with varied crops on the farm, including hazelnuts, apples, Christmas trees, arborvitae, hay, corn, oats, wheat and cattle. The vineyard is our most recent venture; its earliest planting was in 2001. The pinot grapes must like our soils .
We take both supporting fish and sustainability very seriously. To do our part in lowering water temperature, we have extensively planted trees along the Willamette River and Springbrook Creek. Our ponds have been “off limits” to hunting for many years now, which the wildlife has appreciated. By using drip irrigation everywhere possible, we keep our water usage minimal. In the vineyard, we rotate cultivation between rows to encourage microorganisms. We have taken all necessary steps to qualify as “Salmon Safe”, and, somewhat uniquely, we actually have fish and wildlife habitat surrounding our vineyard. Bruce Hall, owner of Willamette Farms, served for years on the Willamette Greenway Commission, and, for many years, we sought to lead a Willamette river/trail easement program. We encourage and enjoy visits by study and recreational groups.
Come visit us yourselves! Take a break at our tasting room, have a picnic by the river or one of the ponds and walk the trail to the vineyard. Just close the gates behind you – hungry Bambis wait outside for their chance to feast!
